Description:

The latest Game Boy Advance laminated display from Hispeedido offers a resolution closer to the original, giving an improved appearance compared to the 480 x 320 display.

The screen has touch sensors built in, which control features such as brightness and pixel mode options.

Fitting this IPS screen kit is simplified thanks to the integrated design: there are no PCBs to attach, no touch sensors to solder and no screen lens to align. It is compatible with both 32-pin and 40-pin versions of the GBA console.

Shell compatibility: this screen needs a laminated IPS ready shell from Hispeedido for a drop-in fit. It is not compatible with the FunnyPlaying laminated shell. We do not recommend trimming your own shell – it is much more difficult than it looks, as part of the shell has to be filed / sanded down, not just cut, and incorrect trimming may crack or damage the display.

The kit includes the LCD panel with laminated screen lens and the ribbon cable to connect it to the mainboard. Three pieces of hook-up wire are also included for optional soldering, which adds the on-screen display (OSD) menu. All of the OSD features can be controlled with the touch pads, so the no-solder option still gives you the same pixel modes etc. as when the optional wires are fitted.

The screen upgrade supports 15 levels of brightness, 8 colour modes and 4 display modes: default, retro pixel effect and 2 scan line effects.

As with any IPS screen upgrade, we recommend good quality batteries such as Eneloop or Ladda, or fitting a LiPo battery mod, due to the higher power requirements of IPS screens.

NOTE: Please bench test the screen before installation to check for any issues – this helps us support your warranty. Leave the adhesive backing and protective film on the product until you are satisfied it is working correctly and there are no pixel faults. If you discover any faults, please send a picture of the bench test to support@zedlabz.com for assistance.

Soldering is optional (3 wires in total). If fitted, the wires allow brightness control from the original brightness button and give access to the OSD menu.

Other items needed (not included): a Hispeedido laminated IPS ready shell, basic tools to open the Game Boy and fit the screen, and a soldering iron (optional).

Please note the LCD screen and ribbon cable are fragile and need care to install. They are also more susceptible to damage once installed if the console is dropped, and LCD screens can crack under pressure or impact. Our warranty does not cover accidental / user damage to any components in this kit. A replacement screen (screen only) and replacement ribbon cables are available to purchase separately.
