- Low forward voltage
- Small size idea for games consoles
- Requires internal soldering
Description:The 1N5819 schottky diode from ST Microelectronics is a general-purpose Schottky diode ideal for use with gaming mods such as the Picoboot 5V install, this part is listed as a suitable diode on the github install instructions for the 5V Picoboot install method.
Ideal for power rectification and protection in low-voltage circuits.
Controlling the voltage flow in game console mods helps to protect other components, diodes are commonly used where a battery mod has been installed, such as in the Sega Dreamcast or a DIY lipo mod to stop voltage going.
When diodes get old they may make the power circuit less efficient, replacing the diode can improve power flow which is useful when fitting power hungry mods.
A diode may also be used to offer some protection against fitting the wrong mains adapter into a console. Round barrel plugs may have a center positive or negative depending on the console, if you use the wrong type if may damage over components without a diode in place.
Black band mark indicates the minus side of the diode.
Requires internal soldering, through hole component, although it is possible to solder to surface mount pads also.
