Formation Z Deluxe Edition revives Jaleco's 1984 arcade classic for PlayStation 5, with updated graphics and a reworked sound world.

The signature mechanic is intact and still holds up: switch in real time between robot and flight modes, changing your approach as the situation demands. It predates most of the transforming-mecha genre it went on to influence.

This edition extends the original considerably. There are five large mission areas, each designed around its own challenges and objectives, plus new weapons and a Factory system for building up your arsenal between runs.

A scoring system rewards replaying stages properly rather than simply finishing them, which is where the arcade DNA shows through most clearly.
