SNK's Neo Geo family covers the Neo Geo AES home console (1990), the MVS arcade hardware, and the Neo Geo Pocket / Neo Geo Pocket Color handhelds (1998–1999). All four are now firmly collector hardware. ZedLabz stocks the available Neo Geo Pocket and Pocket Color parts, AES and MVS-relevant capacitor kits and the smaller restoration components.
Quick picks for any Neo Geo project
- If your Neo Geo Pocket needs work: shell, button and battery refresh, accessible repairs without specialized tooling.
- If your AES or MVS shows audio whine: a recap. Original SNK boards from 1990 onwards benefit from preventative cap refresh on the same timeline as Saturn or Genesis. See capacitor kits.
- If you collect across the family: source available parts as you find them. The Neo Geo aftermarket is small; builds typically combine ZedLabz stock with niche-supplier parts elsewhere.

Neo Geo. FAQs
What's the difference between Neo Geo AES and MVS?
AES (Advanced Entertainment System) is the home console, same hardware as the arcade, packaged for living-room use, with proprietary AES cartridges. MVS (Multi Video System) is the arcade hardware, same chips, different cartridges and form factor, designed for cabinet operators. Conversion projects between MVS and AES exist in the wider modding community.
Is the Neo Geo Pocket Color compatible with original Neo Geo Pocket games?
Yes, the Neo Geo Pocket Color (1999) plays both color-specific NGPC titles and the original monochrome Neo Geo Pocket library (1998). Backwards-compatibility is built in. The original monochrome Pocket cannot play the color-only NGPC titles.
Should I recap a Neo Geo AES?
If your AES is showing audio whine, video artefacts or intermittent boot, a recap is the modder community standard fix on a 30-year-old board. If everything works fine, it's optional preventative maintenance. Surface-mount soldering required, plus AES-specific board-revision awareness, verify the cap kit matches your board.
Are Neo Geo controllers cross-compatible?
AES uses 15-pin D-sub controller connectors; MVS uses different cabinet-side wiring. AES sticks and pads work on AES; MVS hardware needs cabinet-compatible controls. Stick conversion projects exist in the wider modding community for both directions.
