Xbox One games. FAQs
Will Xbox One games play on Xbox Series S or X?
Most do. Microsoft made backwards compatibility a core feature of the Series consoles. Many titles also receive automatic Xbox Series enhancements ("FPS Boost" and similar). The Series S has no disc drive, so disc-based games need a Series X or original Xbox One.
Are Xbox One games region-locked?
No. Xbox One game discs are region-free. A US disc plays on a UK Xbox One. DLC and online services can still be region-tied; check before assuming.
Will Xbox 360 games play on Xbox One?
Many do via Xbox One backwards compatibility. Microsoft has gradually added Xbox 360 and original Xbox titles to the Xbox One and Series compatibility list. Not all 360 games are supported; the official list updates over time.
Why buy Xbox One discs?
Discs are owned outright, don't depend on an active digital store, and can be lent or resold. They also work without a network connection once installed. Tradeoffs: physical storage and disc drive use.
