The PSP Go (PSP-N1000, 2009) was Sony's slide-out, UMD-less PSP, internal flash storage only, smaller form factor, divisive at launch. Now a collector and modder favorite. The slide mechanism, joystick and shell are the most common failure points; ZedLabz stocks the replacement parts and accessories that keep a PSP Go running.
Quick picks by repair scenario
- If the slide is sticky or loose: a slider-mechanism replacement or repair kit. The slider is the headline mechanical wear point on the Go.
- If the joystick is mushy: a fresh analog joystick, the same wear pattern as the larger PSPs, and an evening's project for first-time modders.
- If charging fails: a charge port replacement. Through-hole solder work; set aside an evening for the first job on a 16-year-old board.
The PSP Go repair ladder
- Battery: internal battery on the Go (no removable pack). A fresh cell typically restores hours of play per charge depending on screen brightness and storage workload.
- Joystick: accessible after a careful teardown. A common first repair.
- Slider mechanism: the Go-specific mechanical part. Replacement or refresh keeps the screen-and-controls slide smooth.
- Charge port: proprietary connector on the Go (not USB-C). Through-hole solder work.
- Shell / fascia: full teardown. The Go shell is more involved than the Slim PSPs because of the slide mechanism.

PSP Go. FAQs
Is the PSP Go compatible with UMD games?
No, the PSP Go is digital-only. It has no UMD drive. Games install from the PlayStation Store (now closed for new PSP purchases) or from internal storage / Memory Stick Micro (M2). UMDs can be ripped to digital format in the wider modding community.
Are PSP Go and PSP Slim parts interchangeable?
Mostly no. The PSP Go has a different chassis, different screen size, different battery format, slide mechanism, and proprietary charge port. Joysticks have similar formats across the family but verify per part. Shells, screens and most internals are PSP Go-specific.
Can I charge a PSP Go via USB-C?
Not natively, the PSP Go uses a proprietary connector. USB-C mod options exist in the wider community but require port-replacement work. Check product descriptions and modder community feedback before committing to a USB-C conversion.
Is the PSP Go worth restoring?
For collectors, yes, the Go is a distinctive piece of PSP history with a small but devoted following. The slim form factor and slide design are unique. Practical play is partly limited by the closed PSP Store and the need for digital-or-ripped game files; for many owners the appeal is mostly mechanical and aesthetic.
