The Dreamcast preservation ladder

What is a GDEMU and is it worth installing?

GDEMU is an optical-drive-emulator that replaces the Dreamcast's GD-ROM drive with an SD card slot, loading game images instead of original discs. It removes wear on a now-aging optical drive, cuts down loading noise, and speeds up game start times. Worth it if you play often, value silent operation, or have a drive that's already failing. The install is mostly screwdriver work, typical evening project for a careful first-timer.

Are Dreamcast controllers cross-compatible with Saturn or other Sega consoles?

No, the Dreamcast has its own proprietary controller port (similar in shape to a USB connector but pin-incompatible). Saturn and Genesis controllers don't fit. Modern Dreamcast-compatible pads from Retro Fighters and similar work via the native port.

Can I HDMI-mod a Dreamcast?
