Description
The Ultimate Archive Edition is the highest tier of the 33 Games Zool physical programme. A richly presented archive-grade release created to honour the legacy of the game in a form of real permanence and distinction. Strictly limited boutique production run, this is the scarcer of the two Zool editions and the format designed for the long-term collector and the deep-archive Zool enthusiast.
At its core is the full Zool Premium Collector's Edition, housed within a deluxe archive-grade presentation box and expanded with a carefully assembled selection of premium companion pieces. Each element has been chosen to deepen the sense of history, authorship and occasion around the release, from the included Bitmap Books hardcover to the translucent green cassette presentation of Music of the "Nth" Dimension.
Two collector profiles fit this edition in particular. The first is the long-term collector who wants a single statement piece on the shelf and intends to keep the edition as a sealed collector's item. The second is the Zool enthusiast who wants to dive deeper into the title's heritage. The Bitmap Books hardcover, the soundtrack cassette including Patrick Phelan's newly created remix interpretation, the numbered and signed certificate of authenticity and the 50mm heavyweight collector's coin together carry far more of the Zool and Gremlin Interactive story than the Premium Collector's Edition alone.
The release is officially licensed through Umbra Dynamics on behalf of the rights holder Urbanscan. Original Gremlin-era creative contributors involved in the programme include illustrator Ric Lumb on key character artwork and composer Patrick Phelan on the soundtrack. The cassette features the original Zool soundtrack on Side A and a newly created remix interpretation by Patrick Phelan on Side B.

Worth it if
- You collect Mega Drive releases as a long-term archive and want the format that presents Zool as a properly preserved piece of video game history

FAQ
Q: What is included in the Ultimate Archive Edition that the Premium Collector's Edition does not include?
A: The Ultimate Archive Edition contains the full Premium Collector's Edition plus a deluxe archive-grade presentation box, the Bitmap Books "A Gremlin in the Works" hardcover with ribbon separator, the "Music of the Nth Dimension" translucent green audio cassette (original soundtrack on Side A, newly created remix on Side B), a numbered and signed certificate of authenticity, a 50mm heavyweight Zool collector's coin and a die-cut coin presentation wallet.
Q: How limited is the Ultimate Archive Edition?
A: Strictly limited boutique production run. 33 Games positions this as the highest tier of the Zool physical programme and does not plan to reprint. Once the run sells out, the edition is closed.
Q: Is the Music of the "Nth" Dimension cassette playable on standard equipment?
A: Yes. The cassette is a standard analogue audio cassette and plays on any cassette deck or portable tape player. Side A is the original Zool soundtrack by Patrick Phelan. Side B is a newly created remix interpretation by Patrick Phelan, produced for this 33 Games release.
Q: Will this Zool cartridge work on my Sega Genesis / Mega Drive console?
A: Yes. The cartridge is region free. The same cart runs on Sega Mega Drive (PAL and Japan) and Sega Genesis (US) without an adapter. It will also run on most third-party and clone consoles capable of accepting Mega Drive / Genesis cartridges (Sega Nomad, Mega Sg, RetroN-style multi-console clones and similar).
Q: Is the cartridge new or an original 1993 unit?
A: Newly manufactured. The cartridge has been produced for this 33 Games release as a contemporary boutique reissue under official licence. It is not pulled or refurbished 1993 stock.
Q: When will my pre-order ship?
A: July 2026, per the 33 Games production schedule. Stock will be allocated to ZedLabz from the UK production run, and we will despatch pre-orders as soon as we receive stock. You will get tracking and despatch confirmation by email at the point of shipping.
Q: Is the Bitmap Books hardcover the same edition sold separately by Bitmap Books?
A: The Bitmap Books "A Gremlin in the Works" hardcover by Mark James Hardisty is included as a companion piece in the Ultimate Archive Edition. The same book is also offered as a standalone pre-order on the 33 Games site and in the 33 Games collection at ZedLabz, for collectors who want the hardcover without the full archive box.
Q: Can I add the standalone companion products to this order?
A: You can. The Ultimate Archive Edition already contains the Bitmap Books hardcover and the soundtrack cassette inside the archive box, but the wider Zool companion range (the A Gremlin in the Stereo gatefold vinyl, the Zool Premium Trading Card Set and the Zool Special Issue Enamel Pin Badge) is available as separate pre-orders in the 33 Games collection.
