The PlayStation 5 launched in 2020 in disc and Digital Edition revisions, with a Slim refresh in 2023. The DualSense controller is the heart of the buyer-search activity, drift, worn triggers and adaptive-trigger fatigue are the routine repair drivers. ZedLabz stocks DualSense joystick modules, hall-effect drift-fix upgrades, replacement shells, faceplates, fans and the smaller console-side parts.
Quick picks by repair scenario
- If a DualSense stick is drifting: a fresh joystick module. Hall-effect upgrades use magnetic sensors instead of contact-based potentiometers, avoiding the contact wear mechanism that causes drift.
- If the trigger feels weak or sticky: a trigger replacement or adaptive-trigger refresh. The L2/R2 adaptive triggers are the headline DualSense feature and the most-asked-about wear point.
- If the console fan is loud: a fan refresh or thermal paste swap. PS5s benefit from periodic dust cleaning at the very least.
The PS5 repair and customisation ladder
- Console-side: dust the fan and refresh thermal paste: preventative maintenance after a couple of years' use. Helps thermals and noise.
- DualSense joystick replacement: like-for-like or hall-effect. Tri-point Y00 driver, careful teardown. An evening's project for first-time modders.
- DualSense trigger / button refresh: once the controller's open, button and trigger modules are easy to refresh.
- DualSense shell swap: full controller rebuild. Plan for a couple of hours with patience.
- Console faceplates: swappable on disc and Digital revisions. Cosmetic upgrade, no tools required for most third-party faceplates.

PS5. FAQs
Can I fix DualSense drift?
Yes. The standard fix is replacing the analog stick module, either with a like-for-like part or with a hall-effect upgrade. Hall-effect modules use magnetic sensors that avoid the contact-wear failure mechanism. The install requires a tri-point Y00 driver and basic soldering for the stick module's pins.
Are PS5 disc and Digital faceplates interchangeable?
No. Disc and Digital Edition consoles have different faceplate cutouts because of the disc-drive opening on the disc model. Verify which revision you have before ordering. The 2023 Slim revision uses a different faceplate format again from the original launch hardware.
Should I open my PS5 to clean the fan?
After 2–3 years of use, dust accumulation in the fan and intake is normal and worth addressing. The PS5 has accessible side panels that pop off without tools, exposing the fan duct. A more thorough clean and thermal paste refresh requires a deeper teardown, set aside an evening for a careful first attempt and watch a teardown video first.
How long does a DualSense stick replacement take?
An evening's project for first-time modders. The DualSense uses internal screws under the front grips, fragile ribbon cables for the touchpad, and the stick modules are soldered to the main board. Patience helps. Faster once you've done a few, the second pad is typically half the time of the first.
