3DS and DS family stylus pens, slot-in plastic replacements, metal extendable styluses and multi-packs.
Browse 3DS / DS stylus pens by type
- Slot-in plastic stylus. Standard original-style replacements that fit the unit's stylus slot
- Metal extendable stylus. Telescoping pen-style stylus for adult-sized hands
- Stylus multi-packs. Cost-effective bulk replacements
The Nintendo 3DS and DS family use stylus pens for touch input on the bottom screen, and the original styluses get lost frequently or wear at the tip. Stylus replacement is one of the highest-volume accessory categories across the family. ZedLabz stocks slot-in plastic replacements (designed to fit the unit's stylus slot, like the original), metal extendable styluses (telescoping pen-style for adult hands) and bulk multi-packs.
Quick picks for 3DS / DS stylus replacement
- Easy entry point: a slot-in plastic stylus pack matched to your console model. Drop into the stylus slot and the unit operates as standard.
- The travel option: a metal extendable stylus, longer than the slot-in style for adult hands, retracts for storage.
- The stocking-up option: a multi-pack of plastic styluses, an effective hedge against losing the next one.
How to choose a 3DS / DS stylus
- Match the model: stylus dimensions vary across the DS family. The DS Lite stylus is shorter than the 3DS XL stylus; the original 2DS uses its own size. Check the product page for the model fit.
- Choose slot-in vs extendable: slot-in matches the original feel and stows in the unit. Extendable is more comfortable for long sessions but doesn't fit the stylus slot.
- Plastic vs metal: plastic styluses match original weight and feel; metal styluses feel more substantial and tend to last longer.
- Buy in packs: stylus loss is the most common reason for replacement, so a multi-pack saves repeat orders.

3DS and DS Stylus Pens. FAQs
Will a 3DS XL stylus fit a regular 3DS?
The slot-in stylus dimensions vary by model, the 3DS XL stylus is longer than the regular 3DS stylus, and the New 3DS XL uses a different stylus again. Check the product page for the specific model fit before ordering, the stylus slot dimensions don't always match across the family.
Do generic styluses work on the 3DS / DS family?
Generic capacitive smartphone styluses do not work, the 3DS / DS bottom screen is a resistive touch panel that needs pressure, not capacitance. Standard plastic-tipped slot-in or telescoping styluses (like the originals) work fine. Capacitive smartphone-style styluses register no input on a resistive screen.
Why do stylus tips wear out?
The plastic stylus tip is softer than the screen surface (intentionally, to prevent scratches), so the tip rounds off with use over months and years. A worn tip can feel less precise and may require more pressure to register input. Replacement is straightforward, just swap to a fresh stylus.
Is the metal extendable stylus comfortable for long sessions?
Most adults find the metal extendable stylus more comfortable than the short slot-in original, particularly for adult-sized hands or extended sessions on stylus-heavy games. It doesn't fit the stylus slot, so it's a separate carry rather than slotting back into the unit.
