Will an original DS Lite case fit a 3DS or New 3DS XL?
No. Each model in the DS family has its own form factor, original DS, DS Lite, DSi, DSi XL, 3DS, 3DS XL, New 3DS, New 3DS XL, original 2DS and New 2DS XL all have different chassis. Polycarbonate cases are model-specific, the product page lists which model the case fits.
Do 3DS family chargers work across the whole family?
The 3DS-family charger (DSi onwards) uses the same proprietary connector across DSi, DSi XL, 3DS, 3DS XL, 2DS, New 3DS, New 3DS XL and New 2DS XL. The original DS and DS Lite use a different proprietary connector and aren't compatible with the 3DS-family charger.
Are 3DS-family batteries replaceable?
Yes. 3DS, 3DS XL and 2DS family batteries are user-replaceable, behind a small access panel on the back. New 3DS and New 3DS XL batteries are internal and require unscrewing the back panel. DS Lite batteries are also user-accessible. Original cells from launch are well past their normal cycle life; replacements restore playtime.
What's the difference between 3DS, New 3DS and 2DS?
The 3DS (2011) and 3DS XL (2012) include autostereoscopic 3D on the top screen. The 2DS (2013) is a flat budget variant with no 3D. The New 3DS / New 3DS XL (2014/15) added a second analog nub, more processing power and improved 3D tracking. The New 2DS XL (2017) is a clamshell 2D-only variant on the New 3DS chassis.
