Description:

The Robot Retro GBC Overclocker Flex lets you overclock or underclock your Game Boy Color to speed up or slow down gameplay, switching speed on the fly with a simple button combination. Developed by Robot Retro in collaboration with RJS FPGA.

At stock speed the flex runs at 8.388MHz with ±0.01% accuracy, matching the original GBC crystal, so there is no difference from an unmodified console until you change speed.

Screen compatibility and speed limits:

- Default maximum speed is 170% (original OEM screen)
- Bridge solder jumper S1 to cap the maximum at 150%
- Bridge solder jumper S2 to cap the maximum at 130% (FunnyPlaying Laminated RP 2.0 and Q5 non-laminated screens)
- Not compatible with OLED screens

Installation:

Remove the original GBC crystal (a hot air station is recommended). Fit the flex as shown in the photos and solder the three points highlighted in pink - Test Point VDD5, the power switch and the old crystal footprint. The flex wraps around the board to reach Test Point VDD5.

Run wires to test points P02, P03 and P12 (shown as the red, pink and green wires). Use flux for the best results. For the optional LED speed indicator, solder the blue wire to the positive leg of the power LED.
