Do I need the game to play this?
No. It's a standalone record for any turntable. It's a companion to the R-Type DX Collector's Edition cartridge rather than part of it – the cartridge is sold separately.
What's the difference between this and the CD?
Same 33 tracks, different format and artwork presentation. The vinyl splits them across two sides – Music Encore on Side A, the original Game Boy® BGM on Side B – and comes on a marbled plasma-violet record. The CD holds all 33 in one run in a jewel case. Both include the Nobuhiro Yoshikawa interview.
Is this the same music that's on the cartridge?
Partly. The cartridge is the original version of the game and doesn't include the new Music Encore tracks. This record carries both sets.
When will my pre-order ship?
Retro-Bit expect production to begin around November/December 2026, with all deliveries completed by Q1 2027. We ship pre-orders as soon as stock reaches us, and we'll email you if the publisher's dates move.
Will there be a reprint?
Retro-Bit have said they have no plans for a reprint at this time. The pre-order window closes on 1 November 2026, and quantities after release are expected to be limited.
How is it packed for shipping?
Records go out in purpose-made rigid record mailers, not a generic box, so the sleeve corners arrive as they left us. Worldwide delivery with tracking.
