Switch Spare Parts. FAQs
Are Joy-Con shells the same on left and right?
No. The left and right Joy-Cons have mirrored layouts (analog stick top-left vs face buttons top-right) so shells are sold as left-specific and right-specific. Order the matching shell for the Joy-Con you're repairing, the product page lists which side the shell fits.
What's the most common Joy-Con failure?
Stick drift, by a wide margin. The original Joy-Con stick uses a contact-based potentiometer that wears with use; over time it reports input even when the stick is centered. Hall Effect replacement sticks use a magnetic sensor with no wear surface, so they don't develop the same fault. After drift, rail wear (the rail clips weaken with repeated dock seating) is the second-most-common Joy-Con issue.
What screws do Joy-Cons use?
The four outer Joy-Con screws use a tri-point Y00 head, this is the only non-standard tool needed. Internal frame screws are Phillips PH00. A standard precision screwdriver kit covers the internals; you'll need a Y00 bit specifically for the outer shell. See our modding tools for kits.
Will original Switch parts fit Switch OLED?
Joy-Con parts (sticks, shells, buttons, triggers) are shared between original Switch and Switch OLED. Console-level internal parts vary between original Switch, Switch Lite and Switch OLED, check the product page compatibility section before ordering console-level parts.
